On Friday 4th march,I gave my first ever iPhone workshop to a number of LIT students and lecturers.
Being my first workshop, and not a natural speaker I was initially abit apprehensive, but with the friendly/keen students and well setup lab,I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Hopefully the day was beneficial too for the students, and they have taken at least a basic understanding of iPhone development.Typically most iPhone development courses tend to be 3days or more,so it was a tall order,to communicate all the various components of iPhone development, from design to development. The objective-C language itself can be quiet daunting, particularly if coming from a Java background which most students seemed to have.Despite the time constraints,at the end of the day, each student had taken a client specification for an app,and developed a complete app.I must say I was very impressed.I threw a lot of technical jargon, new concepts at the class, and they still wanted more! :)
The morning session comprised of a powerpoint presentation covering various aspects of iOS development from registering as an iphone developer, examining the hardware features of an iPhone, introduction to Objective-C and a live demo of creating a HelloWorld iPhone app.
In the afternoon,I handed out a worksheet which contained a client specification for an app for Bob's Beans. This fictional brand were looking for an amusing app to promote their new brand of beans called Atomic Beans. The app would allow a user to play various ahem sounds,by touching buttons on the app.It was a straightforward app,but it covered much of the process, that iPhone app development would cover.Ive attached the worksheet here Download Introduction to iPhone development,if you would like to have ago yourself!
Happy Tooting!
A small selection of screenshots from completed projects. Not bad for their first time!
There is no proper survey regarding the usage of iphone apps, because there are millions and millions of people using apps and they are just crazy about it. As the demand for its apps is increasing iphone development firms are striving hard to create more number of apps.
